Roots

May 25th, 2008

“To just go off into the woods and make a piece of work roots me again. And if I don’t work for a period of time, I do feel rootless. I don’t know myself.” —Andy Goldsworthy, from Rivers and Tides.

In the Store

May 17th, 2008

aboutface_lg.jpgAbout Face is out now. I drove to the bookstore last night and picked up my copy, because I had to own the experience of purchasing it myself! I’m blown away by the breadth and depth of the essays in the anthology and, yes, of course, I am completely biased.

Spent the morning with C today, watching the kids roll down the grassy hill while we drank our coffee and talked about mamahood and the whole creative process. Everything we do now is on its own time. I peeked into her studio while he trailed behind me, pulling at the tricycle. A new portrait of her father, self-portraits half in flight, and then, the small square one of me when I was so pregnant in the deep end of fall. It’s amazing that the next one is nearly here. And that all these years down the road, she holds the book in her hands and understands, exactly, how it feels.
